Visit Cherating

About

The independent guide to Cherating — the whole village, beyond Club Med.

Search for Cherating and you mostly find Club Med — a closed, all-inclusive resort that’s only one corner of the place. The rest of Cherating is a laid-back surf-and-fishing village with a free public beach, a turtle sanctuary, budget chalets, a firefly river and Malaysia’s most beginner-friendly surf. We built Visit Cherating to be the honest editor for all of it: what’s actually worth your time and money, inside the enclave and well beyond it.

We’re not affiliated with anyone

We’re not Club Med, we’re not a booking platform, and no resort owns or pays us. That independence is the whole point — it’s why we can tell you the beach is free, which budget chalet is actually nice, and that the turtle release is a seasonal, ticketed activity, not a year-round given.

How we research

Every price, time and fact comes from the operators’ own sites, the marine-park pages and reputable sources, and we mark prices as indicative with a “verify before you go” note — surf lessons, boat trips and room rates all change. Where we can’t confirm something, we say so rather than guess.

Honest by default

We don’t invent details to sound authoritative. When a photo is a Cherating-locale shot rather than the exact place, we say so on the page. When a resort is dated or a stay is basic, we say that too. We’d rather be useful and honest than polished and wrong.

Who it’s for

Anyone planning a Cherating trip — the family weighing Club Med against a beach resort, the surfer timing the monsoon swell, the backpacker after a RM 60 chalet, or the KL weekender after a slow beach break. If that’s you, start with getting there, where to stay, or things to do.

Spotted something out of date or wrong? We genuinely want to know — accuracy is the whole job. Photo credits and licences are listed on our attributions page.
